Salem Calcaterra is a queer artist born and raised in Northern New Jersey and has been creating digital 3D art since 2016. Salem always had a love for video games and wanted to make them from a young age, this led them to learning 3D art to bring their ideas to life. As time went on Salem learned of the works of Francis Bacon, Masahiro Ito, and Beksinki and pieces of media such as James Wan's “Saw”, Clive Barker's “Hellraiser”, and Konami’s “Silent Hill”, and through these they found an appreciation for the odd, grotusque, and the twisting of the human form. This leads to the present day where Salem now creates 3D art of strange, odd, and charming creatures and characters through programs such as Blender 3D and Substance Painter. They utilize techniques created for the designing of 3D models made for video games meaning all the models they produce are game-ready. They wish to create works for franchises and genres that they have grown to love and hope that their work inspires those to take a look under the hood of their favorite media and see all the people like Salem who make it possible.
